When I was twelve years old, I spent the summer with my grandparents. They lived beside a range of hills in a valley, which they had a small farm. They kept a lot of sheep, who roamed free on the hills for most of the year. My uncle John, I shared a room with , came back to the farm each summer to help with shearing the sheep, the wool was very valuable. John was a really big man with a black beard, seemed to me like a giant, and huge hands were covered in old scars. For several days we went up into the hills to find the sheep, which we rounded them up with dogs and brought down to the farm. First we had to wash the sheep, then cut the wool, had grown thick on their backs during winter. John tried to show me the way how to cut the wool from the sheep, but every time when I tried to do it, the sheep always struggled loose and ran away. I had fun, but I knew I would never be a sheep farmer.
